Statement by ϲͼ Chair Lyndel Manson on Gov. Hobbs’ 2023-2024 executive budget

“The ϲͼ Board of Regents appreciates Governor Hobbs’ executive budget, which proposes key investments in our public university system. This plan will help the universities' work toward affordability, workforce development and economic opportunity.

“In particular, Governor Hobbs proposes a meaningful expansion of the ϲͼ Promise Scholarship, a program that covers all tuition and fees for thousands of low-income ϲͼ-resident students to attend ϲͼ State University, Northern ϲͼ University and the University of ϲͼ. The governor’s planned investment in the ϲͼ Teachers Academy will help train the next generation of educators and combat the teacher shortage affecting too many K-12 schools across our state. Finally, the executive budget includes support for the New Economy Initiative, which is critical to boost workforce development in fast-growing sectors such as health care, engineering, aerospace and more.

“These are investments in proven programs uplifting communities, solving problems and changing lives through higher education. The ϲͼ Board of Regents stands ready to work with Governor Hobbs and legislators to strengthen our state’s public universities as powerful engines of personal growth and economic prosperity.”
